Mary McNeill, MA

Associate Therapist

Pronouns: she, her, hers

I see the therapeutic relationship as collaborative, at times intense, but always with a finish line.  The bad things that happen, the anxiety we feel, the fears we have, are not emotions to avoid.   People can learn from their most negative experiences. To enhance our happiness we need the courage to own our thoughts, our feelings, our actions, our desires, and explore concrete strategies to make healthy changes in our lives and celebrate our interdependence.

I respect and value the individual and am dedicated to helping you make the choices necessary to live a productive life as a member of communities in which you feel connected. I focus on listening to the individual story–your story. I will guide you to the language necessary to process your experiences and find a deeper appreciation for the moment.  There is healing in movement; if you want to heal there must be awareness of the connection between your mind and body.

I specialize in individuals and families of all ages who struggle with life's many challenges:

  • Aging

  • Anxiety

  • Athletic Performance and Motivation

  • Depression

  • Grief

  • Healthy support structures for LGBTQIA+children, young adults and parents

  • Illness or injury

  • Sexual health

  • Trauma

  • Work related conflict

  • Along with other social, emotional or behavioral disruptions.

Life has led me to many unique, sometimes difficult, experiences, and as a result, empathy for the human condition leads my practice.

Together we will utilize a variety of clinical approaches, Adlerian, Existential, and  Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy – all include strategies which support your ability to control your thoughts and behaviors for wellness.

I have years of experience identifying strengths and utilizing weaknesses. Joining me in the therapeutic process demonstrates your strength and we will build on these.  I will work with you to create realistic, effective goals and provide the support to carry out those plans.

I taught and coached for over two decades, lived and worked in China, Japan and Russia, traveled extensively and read voraciously, all to have a better understanding of people. I have a MA in School Counseling, and a MA in English Literature. Outside of my life as a therapist, I am active, love to be outdoors, and spend time with my family and friends.
